The Question often arises: How does Astrology work? How do these distant planets relate to us?

 

You should know that we are all star dust, made from stardust and living in stardust. Every second of every day, the earth is bombarded with particles and energies that are so minute, they move right through the earth and of course through us.  We know that scientifically... particles, their energies and their trails have been mapped and calculated by modern technology.  We also know that all matter and energy have attraction and repulsion tendencies and so we are affected by these in various ways.  Solar winds, full Moons, retrograde Mercury? These phenomena and their effects are common knowledge now.  

 

In Astrology, the planets move on their orbits through the signs, which are created by star patterns. They  respond to your personal energies and patterns, captured at the moment of birth. They create events and circumstances, join with your senses and emotions, enhancing them or challenging them.  It's always a relief to be able to check the moon or planet positions when you are  having a bad day. An example might be: "Oh, the moon is Libra, Libra is not  a good energy for me, tomorrow it will go into Scorpio and my  mood will lift."  Or, you may find that orbiting Mars is in challenging aspect to your personal Mars.  It may be best to postpone a journey for a few days. Certainly not a good day to go on a long trip. When Venus in positive aspect to its position in your personal chart, it is great day to create something beautiful, or go shopping to find what you want and so on. 

 

Astrology is the oldest science in the world.  It has been observed and, recorded over the centuries in both written and oral traditions. Like most sciences, it has predictability, thousands of years of  collected  research behind it and can help humanity progress in a positive manner.

 

I remember being in India, in the 70's and going to a lecture on Astrology.

A well known Astrologer gave the lecture there and said that during WWII, the British found out that Hitler was using an astrologer for dates in the war, that would be successful for the Germans. Now while the British were not enthusiastic about believing in astrology, they did hire a panel of famous astrologers to work together to see what the German astrologer was predicting. They were to recommend days that Germany would most likely be victorious or lose and counterbalance those days with British maneuvers.  These astrologers also predicted the days and cycles, according to England's astrology chart, that would be more successful for the British armies.  The Indian astrologer felt that this helped turn the tide of the war in favor of the British. So you can see that Astrology can be most useful in many directions.

Now, the ancients who practiced Astrology, also had something else to say about it.  They said that the whole idea of understanding it... is to be free of it. And so the closer we get to a point of Universal or Cosmic, Spiritual Truth ...the less we are affected by it.

 

One of the most important areas in Astrology is how the planets relate to each other by sign and degree. This is that pattern of attraction - repulsion found in every particle in the universe. If you have a wonderful Gemini Sun, but it is in negative  position to Saturn, instead of being happy, peppy and talkative, you will tend to also be reflective and sometimes moody. There are ten planets in everyone's horoscope and when one is not working well, we can counterbalance with other planets. So it is very important to consider the whole Horoscope when making decisions, especially for self knowledge.
